An idea-stage experiment in coffee provenance

One tag per batch, checkable by anyone.

Batch Tag proposes a simple public habit for coffee roasters: photograph one batch tag, post it publicly, let buyers check it before they buy. Nothing here is verified or certified — it's a habit worth trying, not a guarantee.

How it works

One tag per batch, public before it's poured.

01

The problem this is trying to name

Bags say 'single origin' and print a roast date, but there's usually no way for anyone outside the roastery to check the claim. That gap is the whole reason this idea exists — not to solve it with authority, but to propose a habit that makes claims checkable.

02

What's actually proposed here

A roaster tags each batch with roast date, origin, and weight, photographs the tag, and posts it publicly. Buyers look it up before purchase. Community replies and roastery handles are the imagined social check — none of this is built, verified, or moderated today.

03

What does not exist yet

There is no live feed, no submission tool, no verification pipeline, no fraud detection, and no translation system. Every mechanism described on this page is a proposal for how the habit could work, not a shipped feature.

04

Where the token fits, and where it doesn't

BATCHTAG is a speculative cultural marker for people interested in this habit — nothing more. It grants no certification authority, no equity in any roastery, no discount, and no legal claim over any coffee batch or business.

05

Why now, why coffee

Specialty coffee communities already argue publicly about freshness and origin honesty. Batch Tag doesn't claim to end that argument — it asks whether turning it into a repeatable public ritual might be more useful than another one-off dispute thread.

Questions

Read before taking part.

Does Batch Tag verify that a coffee batch tag is real?

No. There is no verification system in place today. The idea (PROPOSED) is that buyers and roastery handles could reply to a submitted photo to corroborate details, but no identity check, chain-of-custody, or authentication process currently exists.

Can I submit a batch tag photo right now?

The concept describes a PLANNED public feed where roasters would post one tag photo per batch. No submission tool, feed, or hosting mechanism has been built or launched yet.

Does owning the BATCHTAG token give me any rights over a roastery or its coffee?

No. The token is proposed only as a cultural marker for people interested in the batch-tagging habit. It carries no equity, certification authority, discount, or legal claim on any roastery, bag, or batch.

Will Batch Tag support languages other than English?

Multilingual submissions and translated batch summaries in replies are a PLANNED aspiration as the idea grows, not a current feature. No translation or localization tooling exists today.

How would fake or fraudulent tags be caught?

This is an open risk, not a solved problem. Community replies and roastery handles are a PROPOSED social check, but nothing prevents a fabricated photo from being posted, and no automated fraud detection is implemented.

Is this an official coffee industry standard?

No. Batch Tag is an independent, speculative meme/habit experiment with no affiliation to any coffee association, certification body, or regulatory authority.
